Bolded bits were my personal highlights.
Day 1: Airport. Hotel. Curry. Day 2: Ueno Park. Tokyo National Museum. Mystery noodles. Senso-ji. Udon. Day 3: Meiji Shrine & grounds. Harajuku. Regional McDickle's Menu. Metro Gov't Building. Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. Conveyer belt sushi. Day 4: Tsujiki fish market. Sushi/chirashi for brunch. Ginza. Ill-fated detour to Koto City. Itoya. Takoyaki and a series of deep-fried items. Day 5: Kamakura. Hokokuji. Matcha tea. Hachiman-gu. Soba and a pretty mysterious bento box. Kamakura beach. Gyukatsu. Day 6: Mt Takao. Cable car. Monkey park. Suspension bridge. Cold soba. Biwatoki Stream. Biwa Waterfall. Onsen. Sort of another bento box, small headless fish, and a big ass matcha parfait thing. Day 7: Get ticket at Tsuta. Rikugien gardens. Ramen at Tsuta. Imperial gardens. Wagyu beef & friends at Teppanyaki Akasaka. Day 8: Flight conveniently delayed to extend trip in Tokyo. Sushi for breakfast at Tsujiki fish market. Edo-Tokyo museum - wow, Tokyo has a really traumatic and depressing history. Airport udon.
Interspersed throughout: Buying a bunch of skirts, LITTLE CAKES, 7/11 snacks, including onigiri and puddings.
Dessert awards: 3. Mt Takao onsen matcha parfait 2. grape-chocolate cake thing - sounds gross but was really good. 1. matcha cake at Muji cafe - this cake was so rich it was brownie-adjacent.
Based on what I most enjoyed this trip I think next time we will try a loop of northern Honshu. | |
