Adele - Set Fire to the Rain
But I set fire to the rain,
Watched it pour as I touched your face,
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name
Your name.
When it played on the radio at work, I always thought that this part of the chorus started with "But I set fire to the rain, watched it pour as I fanned the flames." Well, it's not. Adele never fanned the flames. She didn't need to. Rain, in this context, is clearly highly combustible, and it usually stops falling eventually.
I set fire to the rain,
And I threw us into the flames
Where it felt something die
'Cause I knew that that was the last time
The last time.
Seriously, what does rain symbolize here.
