anyone can fall apart, let's fall together

2019.06.12 21:27 - A challenging spread
Tried to get a read into an old friend from university for practice. Didn't tell them about the reading though; nobody likes unsolicited input into their lives.

9-Card Mandala Spread
  1. The person's current mindset: Ace of Pentacles (reversed). Materialism, scarcity.
  2. Ambitions and desires: The World (reversed). Wanting it all, but stagnating
  3. Hopes and dreams: The Fool (reversed). Innocence, freedom, spontaneity, trust - but holding back and overthinking.
  4. Achievements and day-to-day focus: Six of Swords (reversed). Past transgressions are behind, but the wounds are still unhealed.
  5. Dependencies and obsessions: Knight of cups (reversed). Romance and chivalry, but emotions that have led one astray in the past.
  6. Strengths: Nine of wands (reversed). A strong sense of self - standing one's ground - but either tending into obstinacy at times, or battered into wishy-washiness.
  7. Weaknesses: Seven of cups. Finally, an upright card, but the meaning isn't even that positive. A multitude of options. Wishful thinking. A need to pare down choices.
  8. Self-perception: King of cups (reversed). The upright King of Cups represents dignity, structure, family, and spiritual guidance. Reversed it signifies a need for order that reveals emotional vulnerability.
  9. Higher purpose: The Hierophant (reversed). Upright, the Hierophant symbolizes religion, conformity, and tradition. Reversed it represents staking out one's own path and breaking with convention, going against their upbringing.
So the spread shows that this individual currently has material matters on their mind (#1) - but they also want to reach beyond that, and their own recent personal issues (#4) to "have it all," materially, familially, and spiritually (#2). To do that, this person is now prepared to defend their corner at any cost (#6).

This individual has potential to achieve the lightness and trust they desire (#3) by striking out and exploring their spirituality (#9) but they are probably overthinking (#3) or preoccupied with day-to-day matters (#1), and might also be hampered by a need for order (#8).

Finally this person needs to trust one's own emotions again (#5, #3) and separate the mental wheat from the chaff (#7) to shift their focus from the material (#1) to the spiritual.

Anyways, I got a lot of reversed cards - 8/9. If I am committing to reading reversals, I need to figure out when the reversal intensifies the card's meaning or actually is a reversal of the card's meaning. Like the Nine of Wands reversed - that could mean either doubling down and butting heads, or giving in. The only constancy are strongly-held opinions and conflict.
