You told me tales about a luckless prince Whose ladies fled their towers without aid, So then I wrote you my own fables since I thought your efforts should have been repaid.
I wrapped them in an envelope of blue And sealed them with my name and rainbow wax, And when you opened it you made me rue The very thought I’d had in judgement’s lapse.
You shook your head, I turned away in shame Because it had been you it stung my eyes. My mind is quick but still you cannot blame My heart for being younger, weak, unwise,
