The Weeknd - Tears in the Rain
I put together an entire mix of alcohol-n-drug songs when I was in university. Sadly, that mix was compiled before I discovered the Weeknd, the bulk of whose oeuvre comprises of menacing songs about trying to fill a gaping existential void with drugs and sex in a haunted strip club.
Kiss Land is my favourite Weeknd project, bridging the more crepuscular, gloomy production of the Trilogy mixtapes and the stronger melodic inclinations of later works. Surprisingly, it's barely even about drugs - it's about stardom, empty relationships, and loneliness. The last track, "Tears in the Rain" doesn't even reference drugs at all. But dammit, I don't think I'll have another opening to pick another Weeknd song over the course of this 30-day song challenge. So here it is: Tears in the Ran, my favourite song off my favourite album.
It's not even my favourite Weeknd song. That'd probably go to After Hours, Angel, or The Birds. I should've thought ahead before I started this challenge.
