Cabin in the Woods
Well, today I watched Cabin in the Woods with my mom. It was fun.
As a horror movie - it's effective. I like hixploitation and zombies. It was legitimately frightening, if conventional. The scene where Jules makes out with the wolf head was the most cringe-inducing moment.
My favourite sequence, though, would be when the elevator doors opened and a host of eldritch abominations were unleashed, wave after wave, leaving the control booth splattered with blood and giblets.
As a metaphor for the production of horror movies - it's very tidy, but not very exciting or satisfying. There's no real aha moment, especially since the real-life ancient ones will in fact continue to devour whatever the technicians create.
3/4.
